MPCC Newbuilding Financing Project Closes, Long-Term Charters Secured with Hapag-Lloyd
KfW IPEX-Bank, as the mandated lead arranger, has committed a financing share of USD 100 million to lead the funding for a project involving ten newbuild container vessels for the German subsidiary of MPC Container Ships ASA (MPCC).
According to the bank, the total financing volume amounts to approximately USD 375 million, with the total project investment cost at about USD 535 million. Société Générale served as the active bookrunner and agent for the syndicated facility, with several other international banks also participating in the financing.

The newbuilding fleet covered by the financing comprises two vessel sizes – 3,700 TEU and 4,500 TEU – and is scheduled for delivery between January 2028 and May 2029.
KfW IPEX-Bank stated that all ten vessels have already been fixed on long-term charters to German shipowner Hapag-Lloyd. The vessels' engines are designed by European manufacturers, with core components supplied by European producers, and final assembly carried out at Chinese shipyards.
According to its official website, MPCC is a major capacity provider in the regional container shipping market. Since its establishment in April 2017, the company has expanded rapidly and is now ranked among the world's leading container capacity providers. It was listed on the main board of the Oslo Stock Exchange in May 2018 under the ticker MPCC.
The company currently operates a fleet of 67 vessels with a total capacity of approximately 210,000 TEU. It is now advancing a large-scale fleet renewal and modernisation programme with a total investment of over USD 1.8 billion.
