According to a report by CCTV News on July 26, two Chinese-built mega car carriers—the Panamanian-flagged GLOVIS LEADER and the Maltese-flagged GLOVIS NOVA—simultaneously berthed at Shanghai Nangang Port to load domestically produced vehicles for export overseas. Among them, the newly delivered GLOVIS NOVA completed loading operations for 7,738 new energy vehicles, setting a new record for the largest single-voyage car-loading volume at a domestic port.

Both vessels were built by Guangzhou Shipyard International and are 10,800-standard-car-space LNG dual-fuel powered ro-ro ships, representing the world's leading capacity among similar vessel types. The GLOVIS LEADER had completed an ocean-going voyage and returned to berth at Shanghai Nangang, while the GLOVIS NOVA, officially delivered on July 21, arrived at Shanghai port on its maiden voyage empty.

The record loading volume was made possible by two favorable conditions: the new vessel's spacious design and the high uniformity of the vehicle models. According to China Water Transport News, all 7,738 units loaded were Tesla Model 3 and Model Y passenger cars, with no mixing of buses, construction vehicles, or other large types. With reserved safety gaps for lashing and optimized access routes for deck maneuvering, the internal space was maximized. The vehicles, placed end to end, would stretch 36 kilometers in total length and occupy an area of approximately 67,600 square meters when neatly parked, equivalent to 9.5 standard football pitches.

According to the terminal operator Haitong Lingang, this loading volume is the largest single batch ever loaded at Shanghai Nangang Port since its opening.

At 10:00 PM on July 26, the new energy vehicles had already set sail on the ro-ro vessel bound for the Port of Zeebrugge in Belgium, from where they will be distributed to various European markets.
