Terminal capable of berthing 32,000‑TEU mega‑vessels passes completion acceptance
Recently, the first two berths of the Phase I project at the Yantian Port Area East Operation Zone container terminal successfully passed project completion acceptance after expert review.

This acceptance primarily covers Berths No. 1 and No. 2 and their auxiliary facilities. The phase includes the construction of two 200,000‑tonne class dedicated container berths, with a total quay length of 980 metres. The frontline is equipped with 10 automated twin‑trolley container gantry cranes; the landside container yard covers approximately 610,000 square metres and is fitted with 22 automated rail‑mounted twin‑cantilever gantry cranes. Once operational, the two berths will be capable of safely accommodating container vessels of up to 32,000 TEU, with a designed annual throughput capacity of 2.03 million TEU.
Located on the northern shore of Dapeng Bay, the Phase I project at the Yantian Port Area East Operation Zone is planned to build three 200,000‑tonne class container berths in total, with a quay length of 1,470 metres, a land area of 120 hectares, and a designed annual capacity of 3 million TEU. The total investment exceeds RMB 10 billion. The project adopts a fully automated operation mode featuring "automated twin‑trolley quay cranes + automated rail‑mounted gantry cranes + intelligent horizontal transport fleets", aiming to set a new benchmark for world‑class smart ports that are "intelligent, efficient, green, low‑carbon, and economically sustainable". It will serve as a "super new engine" propelling the Yantian Port Area to a higher‑level international shipping hub.
Going forward, the Yantian Port Area East Operation Zone will continue to work closely with relevant parties, strictly control the quality of the remaining construction works, and fully support the development of a world‑class port cluster in the Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area, offering a "China solution" for the global construction and operation of smart and green terminals.
